This ongoing proposal brings forward two new-build family homes within the walled garden of a former stud farm.
Set in a unique and secluded site, the design responds to the existing red brick structure, retaining and working within the garden walls to create two high-quality homes that reflect both the historic setting and the surrounding landscape.
The layout places two five-bedroom homes around a shared courtyard, each accessed via a single gateway in the garden wall. Low, linear volumes with flat green roofs are arranged to remain discreet within the enclosure, offering privacy while framing long garden views.
A warm and refined material palette, including red Flemish bond brickwork, bronze-toned metal, and vertical timber louvres, ensures a quiet integration with the site’s character. Louvred screens and deep reveals modulate daylight and enhance privacy, while green roofs and soft landscape buffers support biodiversity and sustainable drainage.
This proposal reflects a contemporary reinterpretation of garden architecture, creating generous, low-impact homes that embrace their context while meeting high standards of environmental design.
